On the 16th October, groups from around the country are gathering to protest Coal Seam Gas and the impact on Australians water and land. In conjunction with National Water Week, the aim is to show Australia’s concern, inform people of the facts and what can be done.
The organization BSANE is looking forward to seeing everyone for music, inspirational speakers and of course, participating in the surprise media stunt which will be circulated globally.
After having some great games at the beach, busker played in front of the Main- Beach. It was kind of a lovely soundtrack according to a beautiful sunset. That’s the Byron – Spirit…
This afternoon, we went for a whale watching tour around „Cape Byron“ and „Julian Rock“. During the trip on the zodiac, we saw a lot of „humpback whales“, who are swimming northbound.
We saw a whale- mother with it’s calf. The calf was quite active and jumped out of the water.
While watching this very impressive animals, we spotted a sea turtle close to Julian Rocks.
Whale watching, a trip highly recommended by me, is an experience which you will no’t forget.

Tonight, we had a great concert at the Balcony. We – Max, Marc, Davy, Louis, Hero (Japanese Guy
) and me played around 20 songs. The audience, mostly students and some locals, went just crazy! A wicked night – and guess what – next weekend, there is going to be more…
This morning, the sea was kind of completely flat, no waves, no realy surfy swell – so nothing worth paddling out with my surfboard. So I did the “Nighthouse – Run”. That means: Sunrise Beach – Main Beach – Rainforest up to the Lighthouse – Cape Byron – Wategos Beach – Clarkes Beach – Sunrise Beach.
After school, we had a Ping-Pong tournament with some students. After we had eaten a delicious homemade potato – salad for dinner, we went back to Byron and had a rehearsal with Louis, Davy, Mark and Johan. We’re going to play on the balcony tomorrow. The set contains about 20 songs.
Today, I rode my bike up to the lighthouse and watched out for dolphins and whales. At least I could take a picture of the dolphins, but the Humpback Whale was way faster than me. After a relaxing morning at the most easterly point of the Australian Mainland, I drove down to the Pass and took some pictures of surfers. It was quite crowded out there!
In the afternoon, I helped Max with some bikes and we went to the Beach to play beach volleyball with some Spanish and Swiss students from school.
The waves at the Main Beach looked very well, so I decided to do an early morning surf. Unfortunately, the wind was still quiet strong, so it wasn’t that confy at the beach. After some wipe-outs and some nice turns, I enjoyed a delicios egg-beacon roll at the Beach Hotel.
Today I visited the BBELS and met Jackie, Rebecca and Kenny from the office and the teachers Mick, Frank and Ash. After school, I met Frank at the Rails and we had tons to catch up on. During the afternoon, I helped Max with his bikes for the students and we did some preparations for the friday concert at the balcony. There’s gonna be a great music – night!
Surfing (first surf this year anyway
wasn’t that easy today. There was a pretty strong wind at the beach. The current was really strong and the waves crushing. Some wipe-outs and a head full of saltwater was predictable. Tomorrow, I’ll visit the school and meet some friends there.
Hopefully there is going to be a good swell and some nice waves.
After a pretty short night, I was invited by Davy and his family to his place. After we had some lunch, we went to the sports ground and played soccer.
Though the weather wasn’t that sunny, I was at Clarkes Beach and got into water! Australian friends were appalled by my “swimm-action”, like “You crazy Swiss, this feels like ice”. Anyway, compared to our temperatures in Switzerland – I’m pretty sure, that the water wasn’t so cold
I hope the weather is going to be better and the sky clears up. Then there will be some pictures soon.
